There is a lot of history in printing shirts and creating business cards and other collateral. I remember printing I Love ATL shirts and Georgia Red Kudzu shirts. Once the print was done the shirts were sent to the airport and the malls of Georgia. I remember walking in a store and literally telling the owner I just print those shirts last week. Thing was I was the creator of those shirts and I didn’t see the marginal profit I believed I should have received.

For example I printed thousands of these shirts just to get a few hundred dollars on a paycheck. Whereas the merchant sells hundreds of the same shirt for $20 to $30 each making a possible $20k to $30k. Do the math but a $300 check for 10 places making at least $20 to $30 off of the same shirt I printed is around $200k to 300k. That’s not good business because I should have at least seen a quarter to half of that.

Yep, I could have seen $25k to $50k from the shirts I printed but only made $300 for. Moral of the story is, don’t sell yourself short. There is big business in the print shop and that’s why I want to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

I believe that the merchant should make a profit, the owner of the shop should make a profit, but the artist or the one creating the shirts should make a profit too, not pennies vs the real money made.

Let’s do more math.

10 stores = $300k

Print shop takes $150k

ARTIST or shirt creator should take at least $25k to $50k

The merchant profits $10 per shirt.

The print shop profits $15 per shirt.

The artist profits $5 per shirt.

Why is this fair? Print shop owner has to cover business and tax costs. They make the most.

The Merchant has to pay for the service.

But the person(s) doing the service needs to be treated fairly, not get paid pennies worth.

ThIs was my experience, but I don’t want others to experience this same thing.

The merchants combined will take home $100k

The print shop will take home $150k

So The artist or shirt creator should at least pocket $50k.
